Message I think we both see eye-to-eye on our dislike for SUV's...

But if it can enable Porsche to be more profitable (which it has), why/how does that harm you?

If these luxo-suv consumers were not buying the Cayenne, it would be an Escalade, Navigator, X3/X5, M-B M-class, etc. instead. Don't blame the automaker, blame the consumer. If enough people are willing to buy something, a manufacturer will produce it. Porsche is just playing the game.

So as Porsche builds and sells the Cayenne, their profits go up, which results in more money available for R&D... to fund things like the Cayman or 997TT/GT3, etc.

My analogy: Back when I was really into craft/microbrews, and made my own beer, I viewed these microbreweries that also made "lighter" beers for the masses to be sellouts. Looking deeper into things, I realized that both consumers are paying the same price for the same quantity of beer, but my beer was considerably more expensive because of the extra ingredients required (more barley, more hops). That is when I felt "subsidized" and really didn't mind anymore. :-)
